Your child’s baby teeth play an important role in their dental development. When you bring your child to visit Dr. Sunny, Dr. Nobel and associates, we will discuss the function of your child’s teeth and the best ways for you to help you child take care of his or her smile. To learn more about children’s teeth and make your appointment with our pediatric dentists in Ventura, California, please contact Sunny Smiles Dentistry today at 805-644-5516.

Primary teeth help your child chew properly, aid in digestion and overall health, and help them learn to speak clearly. They also hold the places of the permanent teeth, ensuring that your child’s mouth develops properly and that the teeth are where they should be.

Children’s teeth typically begin to erupt at about 6 months old. Baby teeth typically begin to fall out at about age 6, and this process continues through their early teens, though some children’s teeth may fall out earlier or later than those of their peers. If your child’s baby teeth fall out earlier than expected, our dentists may recommend a space maintainer to help hold the place of the permanent tooth. Children will have 20 teeth – 10 on the top and 10 on the bottom, while adults will have a total of 32 teeth.

Regular dental visits will help ensure that your child’s primary teeth remain healthy and help them avoid dental problems such as cavities and childhood periodontal disease, both of which can have an impact on their oral health as they grow and develop.

We welcome you to contact our office for more information about baby teeth and to schedule an appointment for your child with our caring pediatric dentists.
