What can I do to protect my child’s teeth during sporting events?
Although many sports do not require the use of protective mouth guards, this doesn’t mean that your child doesn’t need them. You can protect your child’s teeth by having them wear a mouth guard during any physical activity where there is a risk of oral or facial trauma. This may include sports such as gymnastics, skateboarding, and weightlifting as well as traditional activities such as soccer, football and basketball.
Our office can provide your child with a custom-fitted athletic mouth guard that will help to protect their teeth from injuries, and may even help protect against injuries such as concussion as well. This guard will be made from a model of your child’s teeth in order to ensure a perfect and secure fit. This will fit over all of their teeth, and can be made from a number of different materials depending on the activity your child will be participating in.
